How does it work?
This project is driven purely by the fabulate community. Our story will be written one page at a time,
based on submissions from our authors, which are then reviewed and selected for publication by our
reviewers. Authors are quite welcome to be reviewers, likewise you can be involved purely as a reviewer,
without ever making a submission.
Submissions are limited to 1000 words, but beyond that, there is only one restriction - the book has to
make sense when read as a whole, so please read and keep up-to-date with the book before submitting.
The 1000 words do not have to end with a full stop - they can end mid-sentence, new characters can be
introduced and locations changed. The whole point of the project is to see where our collective minds take us.
At present, authors are given 10 days to submit their piece for the next page of the story. As soon as
submissions are entered, they are open to review. Once submissions are closed, there are a further 4 days
for reviewers to read, rate and comment on the work - this part is particularly important. A lot of our members
are not professional writers, and so constructive feedback is invaluable to them.
The best way to ensure we have a worthwhile result at the end of this project, i.e. a book we can all be proud
of, is to encourage as many authors and reviewers as possible. Although we will be doing all we can to introduce
the concept and the site to as many people as possible, we would very much appreciate the help of the Fabulate
community with this, by passing on the information to friends or sharing details with the wider internet community
- the "Spread the word" section on the right hand side provides a simple way to share the website via various social
networking sites - please don't be shy in using this!
We don't claim to be experts in writing, nor do we have all the answers as to how a project like this should
be run, and as such, we are always happy to receive suggestions or comments. Please feel free to contact us via the
contact page or the forum.
Hopefully, at the end of this project, we will have a book the whole community can feel proud of. Assuming
we get to that stage, we will look at putting the book into publication and would like to thank successful
contributors by sharing any profits we make from selling the finished book. For a great number of fledgling
authors/writers out there, this project may well be their first chance at publication, an opportunity to
see their name in a published book, and perhaps provide the confidence for them to continue writing and creating
their own works.
